From Cimbax Limited in London, UK is DOKTOOL
Doktool is a simple add-on that takes its lead from what used to be the prime reason to produce an add-on that of automating those processes that developers and consultants did not want to do manually achieve.
The delivery of a developer’s add-on is clearly one that has been created by developers and it allows Microsoft Dynamics users to create full documentation for an individual project or a full instillation through automation.
Documentation has never been the favourite task of any developer in any ERP Platform and it can be seen by VARs during implementation as something that can be used to pick up the slack of the project and therefore occasionally is lost, this add-on allows for the whole process of documentation to be automated. It works by creating the right documentation, from an entire implementation for 200 users to a simple upgrade; and it could not be simpler to use, with a simple help file pushing the user to follow four steps from install to generation of the documentation.
Although primarily designed to remove the effort needed by developers it also offers benefits across the entire workforce of a VAR with benefits for salespeople, developers and project managers. It is possible for the developer to save up to around 80% reductions in developer documentation time.
For the salespeople the biggest advantages have to be that it is now possible to produce accurate project specifications with minimal developer time.
It has a compare and contrast tool which allows different AX versions to be compared and for there to be a chance to clearly identify what code needs development and what can be left. The developers in tune with the salespeople can then produce a functional and technical spec with the confidence to establish what code can be guaranteed and what cannot.
The management tool within Doktool allows for a simple overview to take place with the drag and drop functionality able to customise forms and reports. It is also now possible to create high quality technical specifications quickly and easily, these can be branded by the VAR to offer the end user a truly professional tier 1 documentation that has been missing so far in Dynamics AX.
This new documentation can be used to close the gap between functional consultants and developers.
It is not just the VAR that can take advantage of the benefits of the use of Doktool, the end user is also able to profit from the reduction of the time spent generating documentation.
End users are able to take advantage of the greatly increased quality of documentation, one of the best ways for end users to utilise this advantage is to accelerate the knowledge transfer between developers which allows for a significant reduction of project costs.
As a click and use add-on the install is very simple and the documentation generated is of a higher quality than is normally generated on AX projects, it is certainly a must for existing projects and has many advantages for upgrades and even during projects to complete checks on milestones being hit.
