Microsoft Dynamics AX as an ERP Platform has been expanded and developed in its 8 years of ownership by Microsoft and is now entering the phase when it has become a mature enough market to be in need of add-ons.
Despite huge resources at the disposal of Microsoft who could contend that they would be able to deliver the add-ons themselves it is in the spirit of all software channels to take advantage of the way in which different organisations and different people will use their own expertise to grow the better add-ons due in part to specific vertical knowledge or solution experience. It is often thought that the best of all add-ons in software channels have come from real experience with clients, where past experience proves the catalyst of the invention and invaluable in the delivery of the add-on.
But what is needed to create an add-on for Dynamics AX? It must be able to add to the already automated workflows and procedures and to take the place of variety of departmental applications and legacy databases that are often disjointed and not well-integrated.
