AX Data Manager for SQL Server
Is your database server performing at peak capacity?
Until the premiere of AX Data Manager for SQL Server the task of database optimisation and tuning of Microsoft SQL Server as the Microsoft Dynamics AX database required two technicians – a database administrator and a qualified X++ programmer, with this tool the administrator can resolve the issues them self.
AX Data Manager for SQL Server provides the means of making quick wins with the existing hardware that standard AX is not capable of exploiting.
It provides the quickest and easiest way to determine the most optimal use of the disk storage available.
This powerful utility from AX IMPROVE empowers the database administrator to effectively manage disk storage, by moving the tables and indexes to the optimal, chosen file group.
It is by far the cheapest and quickest way to optimise AX performance.
AX Triage
AX Triage was created as a response to the needs of the first line support, when people of limited technical knowledge need to qualify and determine the origin of the customer’s problem.
The first-line support role is limited to gathering information and confirming that a software issue actually exists, before passing it over to the developer in second-line support, who will either know the solution from the top of his/her head, or in vast majority of cases will need to connect to the customer’s installation to re-create the problem, debug it and issue a ‘fix’.
AX Triage benefits both the first and second line support actions within your support team.
Benefits arising from the use of AX Triage include:
- Quickly categorise the issues raised as belonging to Standard AX, an AX add-on, or a customer specific issue, both reducing the time spent on the support call and ensuring optimum use of resources.
- Reveal the used modules and customisations of the code with line-by-line resolution, allowing determining the best resource to investigate further.
Having total visibility on the lines of code used, a developer can recognise the conditions, just by looking at the branches of code visited and instantly decide where to place the checkpoints, saving literally hours of investigation. - Reduce the need to recreate the issue in a test environment or to connect to the customer’s AX instance.
- Easy enough to ask users to run the sessions.
- Does not require use system’s standard ‘Trace’ which is too complicated for the average user.
- Two modes of operation: manual and programmatic.

X++ Code Scrambler
Protecting the Intellectual Property.
Protect the Intellectual Property of your AX code extensions with our utility – X++ Code Scrambler
This utility will obfuscate the standard X++ source code, making cracking or reverse-engineering almost impossible, while providing syntactically correct source code that AX will compile.
The cost involved with reversing the obfuscation renders it practically uneconomical to attempt to do so.
The core methods of our demo products are protected in this way.
Locking Diagnostics
Where the statics of code meets the dynamics of the database we need assistance in resolving the issue in the form of a locking diagnostics aid.
When an AX installation has performance issues, it’s quite easy do determine if this is caused by locking issues, as SQL Server Management Studio delivers the list of blocked sessions.
However when it comes to the point of fixing the problem, there’s not enough information to pin-point the code creating the problem.
LOCKING DIAGNOSTICS from AX IMPROVE however provides the answer by enabling the AX administrator to start the diagnostic session, collect the data and report the results.
The reports show the blocking statistics (number of blocked sessions, total, minimum and maximum block time) aggregated to the place in X++ code where the blocking originates from.
With this information we can instantly focus on the code that has caused most blocking (time-wise or by number of sessions blocked) rather than blindly scanning the plains of code searching for potential problems.
